Who would have thought that being covered in sawdust would be one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made? I started Schoolhouse Woodworking with the hope that one day it would turn into my full-time career. I guess the old saying “choose a job you love, and you’ll never have to work a day in your life” turned into a self-fulfilling prophecy for me. Every day that I wake up and get to build and create, is a great day for me.
Since I was 15, I dreamed of being a carpenter and contractor, and my television career sort of fell in my lap. I guess my love of teaching, inspiring folks and talking finally paid off. I’ve been lucky to work on many different shows through the years, but the true turning point came when my passion for historic renovation collided with my TV career and DIY’s Stone House Revival was born. It’s been amazing to see the public’s response to the show and their level of appreciation for quality and integrity is extremely rewarding.
Whether I am renovating a historic home or building a custom piece of furniture, my philosophy is simple; do right by the house and the client. Many contractors will attempt to look bigger than they are to entice business, but my focus will always be the homeowner and the integrity of the project. SchoolHouse Woodworking is a small company and will remain that way. I pride myself on giving clients a personalized touch. I don’t have a big team, I don’t have a complicated approach and I don’t take shortcuts. I believe in complete honesty before and during the process. I take a hands-on approach with every job; from the initial phone calls and emails to the design consultation, to the actual work. I am on site to complete and ensure that both the client and I are happy with how the process is going and the end result.
I take as much pride and commitment with your job and renovation as if it were my own, because it is. Getting to do what I love helps SchoolHouse Woodworking exceed client expectations. At the end of the day, my work is my legacy and I do not take that lightly.
